Attitude is Everything

While working temporarily in Austin, TX, I keep telling myself that things will go smoother if I refuse to have a bad attitude. I mean....I just really love my own bed though! Anyways, I'm a list person, so here's my list of reasons I've enjoyed being in Austin.

  • No commentary on my many reality shows
Rodney enjoys making fun of every show I watch. Granted, most of them deserve to be made fun of, but it's really hard to pay attention with the endless comments.

  •  Clean room at all times
Every day while I'm at work, the magic cleaning fairy comes and does the dishes, takes my dirty towels, takes out the trash, and makes my bed. Can someone please give her my home address?? And today, the fairy left me M&Ms and popcorn. She is too cool.
  • So much good food
I love love love to eat out at new restaurants. Unfortunately, Memphis is lacking in the "original" food establishment area. Austin is not. They are "Keeping it Weird" and supporting local business.  We have tried so many wonderful places, and I am still stuffed from our delish dinner from Moonshine tonight. Yum!
  • Starbucks every morning
When you have a coffee maker at home that makes delicious coffee, and you're home to use it, you don't really have an excuse to pay over $2 for a cup at Starbucks. But...when you're not at home and your hotel and office coffee tastes like muddy water, you get a pass.  (Starbucks boy totally knows our orders by heart now. Yeah, we want our usual.)

  • Alarm goes off when I set it and only when I set it
I'm the type of person that likes to be able to sleep until the last possible moment I need to get up. If I know I need to wake up at 6:30, I set my alarm for that time and when it goes off, I'll get up immediately. Rodney is not this way at all. He likes to set multiple alarms. The first is just to get him semi-awake. The second will wake him up a little more. Hopefully by the third alarm, he actually gets out of bed. I've usually woken up at his first alarm and can't get back to sleep.

Although this is a positive post, I do miss my hubs, furry babies, and my bed! :) Happy for a long Labor Day weekend!!

Bio

We're doing bios for a Sunday School directory at church. I just thought I would share our page since I really hadn't posted any kind of "about me" on here yet. Here ya go....

Rodney is a CPA who works as a state and local tax manager at the pharmaceutical company Pfizer. Rachel is also a CPA and works at CBIZ MHM Thompson Dunavant, a public accounting firm, preparing tax returns for individuals and companies.

Rodney is a huge movie buff and owns over 600 blu rays and dvds. Rodney is also passionate about all things Mississippi State. Rachel enjoys reading, music, and watching reality television. We both love food and enjoy trying new restaurants.

We are both from Belmont, a very small town in Northeast MS. Rachel has 1 younger sister, Hannah, and Rodney has a younger sister, Priscilla, and a younger brother, Norman. We have one furry child, Tucker.

To-Do List

So we've agreed to have a Sunday School class social at our house at the end of next month. I say part of the reason I agree to have people over is so that we'll have motivation to get stuff done around the house.

"Ohh..nobody's going to see that! May as well leave it there until I feel like moving it."

List of things to do asap!

  •  Buy office desk so that the computer is no longer sitting on the kitchen table
Okay, so I realize that this isn't as simple as moving something that has been sitting out for a while. (Read-its costs money while moving clutter is free.) But a large computer on a kitchen table isn't very practical with company. Rodney and I have been around and around and around on finding a desk that we BOTH like. He likes chunky and masculine. I like non-chunky and feminine. This is what we finally agreed on...

I LOVE it!!!! I would have never even thought to suggest this to Rodney because it looks like most of the things I like. Since he never likes what I like, I had kinda given up. He suggested it to me though and I'm so thankful he did! It's from Ballard Designs which we've had great experiences with so far.

  • Hang chalk board frame in kitchen
This one is alllll Rodney. I don't hang things on the walls because I do not understand the concept of a straight line.

  • Clean the house
Probably the most important thing but not nearly as fun as buying a desk or watching Rodney do manly chores! HA!

  • Hang wallpaper in guest bathroom
Yes...I said wallpaper. No...I'm not crazy. Every single person in the area that I've asked for help finding someone that hangs wallpaper questions my purchase of said wallpaper. It's seriously gorgeous wallpaper. I don't see what the big deal is? As long as it's not 80's flower power (wait...was that 70's?) then I think it will look awesome. I purchased the wallpaper from The Designer's Attic. She is a designer who takes her leftover fabric, wallpaper, etc from her design clients and offers them at a major discount. Oh. And everything is high end, so you get awesome stuff and a cheap price! Here's the wallpaper (not our walls unfortunately)

Am I seriously crazy for buying? I think it's beautiful. But then again, I do have an affinity for stripes.

Well Hello!

So....I finally took the plunge and decided to start blogging! It has become a daily obsession of mine to check all the many blogs I've started following over the past year. I finally decided that I can do it too! :) There are so very many people that I love but am not able to keep up with like I used to. I want to make this blog a way to stay in touch so a friend is not left wondering..hey..whatever happened to that Rachel girl? And I also want to have this as a "scrapbook" of sorts. For all those pregnancy pushers out there, NO I'm not pregnant, but I still want a way to remember all the many things that go on in our crazy busy lives!

Total direction change here, but for those of you who enjoy reading and don't yet know about Goodreads, join immediately! I am always on the hunt for a new good read, and this website really helps with the hunt. You're able to view what your friends are reading and the ratings they give each book.

Okay, I'm out--got to finish watching the oh-so-educational Bachelor Pad!
